The after-life of a product starts in the design process – as good design and thoughtful design decisions lasts. And I hope you will enjoy the products for a long time. After many years of happy memories and when it is time to end its life the wool can easily be recycled as it is pure wool with no other materials added.
The purity means it can be recycled easily. The recycled wool fibres can be blended with new wool fibre, spun to yarn and woven to coats or new plaids. A new life can begin with the wool from your old plaid and cushion.
Responsible action for a better world
When you don’t want to use your cushion or plaid any longer, you have 3 choices – at least:
If you have used it so much that the fabric just can’t any longer; detach the zipper and labels and bring the fabric to where it can be recycled the right way so it’ll be useful to us and the world one more time. We will update this page on new waste recycling possibilities which will develop over the next years.
How to care for your cushion and plaid
The best way to make woollen things stay fresh is to air them. Hang it out the air, foggy, freezing or sunny weather it does not matter. Do it with you sweaters and coats as well. This type of care maintains the wool new and perfect for a longer time than washing or cleaning. And it requires much less energy, water and soap.
Spot-clean when needed, and when it is really necessary, and it is every now and then, have the laundry wet cleaning them.
Transparent processes and traceable materials
I am so happy that 23 % of the wool in the cushions are recycled wool; waste from the weaving mills own production. This is the reason there is 2 % other fibres (polyester) in the cushions, because the ‘wool waste’ contains it.
Facts about the newest way to work sustainable with wool
Wool fabric always has contained a small part of recycled wool; if not the worlds wool production would never have been sufficient.
Now we try to increase the part of recycled wool in new wool products in order to decrease the sheep farming. And hereby decreasing the C02 emissions and decreasing the landfill.
